Greetings Ladies and Gents! We have been busily working our way into preparing for the first ever Gilded Festival, and as a result it is with great pleasure that we announce the first round of Programming Listings! There you shall find a great many a thing, including child-friendly panels, contests, how-tos, and special events! Please go here to take a peek at all the glorious things we have in store for you!
And speaking of special events, we are especially excited to announce two special events… within the grand event that is The Gilded Fest!
Saturday, starting at 4:00 pm in the hotel restaurant.
In Britain, there is a tradition (dating from the mid-1800s) of serving a meal, around mid-afternoon, featuring light fare such as fruits, scones and pastries, sweets, and finger sandwiches and other savory foods. And, of course, tea! The idea of an afternoon tea, of “High Tea”, spread across high society and became a favorite pastime of ladies of leisure. Later, it spread beyond those highest echelons of society and became more accessible to other groups as well. As the Gilded Festival is a celebration of both the past and class, we present our version of this social tradition! Come and enjoy an hour of socializing on Saturday afternoon with other Festival attendees, and sample many delicious teas as well as light fare exquisitely prepared and served by the hotel! (IMPORTANT NOTE: Additional tickets must be purchased in advance for this event, at the cost of $25, and are available HERE.)
The Thanksgiving Orphans’ Dinner
Friday, starting at 6:00 pm in the hotel restaurant.
The Gilded Festival is being held over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, and we are all aware that some of you may not have been able to enjoy this holiday tradition with your family or loved ones. Or, perhaps you would simply prefer to enjoy this same holiday tradition with your friends and others who understand your rather… *ahem*… peculiar hobbies, such as dressing in outlandish outfits and going to geeky festivals! Well, for all of you, and for anyone who wishes to join us, we present our Thanksgiving Orphans’ Dinner! On Friday night, from 6pm to 8pm, for an additional fee, a full holiday meal featuring roasted turkey, roast beef, cornbread with sausage gravy, tossed salad, side dishes, and some delicious pie for desert will be served in the hotel restaurant! (A vegetarian option of grilled vegetables and pasta will be available upon request.) A dress code of “creatively formal” is preferred, but not required, and musical accompaniment will be provided by Dorian’s Parlor’s own house musician, The Wandering Cellist! So please, come and join us for an evening of great food, great music, and great conversation as part of your holiday weekend! (IMPORTANT NOTE: There is an additional ticket cost for this event, at a price of $50 for adults and $20 for children 6-12. Tickets must be purchased in advance HERE.)
